DISSOLVE DETECTION METHOD AND DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a dissolve from a compression coded video image at a high speed. SOLUTION: A changing tendency calculation stage 3 calculates a changing tendency 4 based on coding information included in an inter-frame forward direction prediction coding image string. A slow changing direction calculation stage 5 extracts an area where a changing direction 4 is constant over a plurality of adjacent frames as a slow change area 6 having a slow change. A discrimination stage 7 discriminates it that a dissolve is in existence when the share of the slow change area 6 on the image is higher than a threshold level.
