PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an original with high accuracy by displaying the images in real time which are read based on the stored image data and scan position while updating these images in sequence. SOLUTION: A CPU 203 sequentially reads the stored image data 400 and scan position coordinate 300 out of a main memory 207 and then generates the plane image data in sequence. Then the CPU 203 generates the present scan position data based on the received present coordinate 300, displays a generated plane image and successively generates the screen information to form a screen where the present scan position of the plane image is shown in a red slender rectangular area. Then the memory 207 successively updating and storing the screen information. At the same time, a controller 206 temporarily stores the screen information in a frame memory 204 and then properly reads the information out of the memory 204 to show a screen on a CRT 205 based on the screen information.
