PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To test the defects of low-contrast images at high speed and by small memory capacity. SOLUTION: A CCD camera 1 photographs a liquid crystal display panel 12. An image input controller 4 outputs the images stored in an image storage unit 3 to a CRT controller 5 and an image processing unit 6. The image processing unit 6 calculates the maximum contrast from the image and outputs a command to display the present image on an image display unit 10 to the CRT controller 5 when it is determined that the maximum contrast is under a predetermined reference value. The CRT controller 5 outputs the image received from the image input controller 4 to the image display unit 10 and also outputs a command to fetch an image again from the CCD camera 1 to a camera controller 2. The image display unit 10 displays an image adjusted into the same size as the LCD panel 12 and performs the backlight illumination of the LCD panel 12.
