PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately search the moving destination of an object image in efficient order by searching the moving destination thereof along stored past selection order. SOLUTION: A focus detection means 1 individually detects focus detection information corresponding to a focusing state concerning plural focus detection areas. A storage means 2a stores the selection order of the focus detection area used for focus control. A focus predicting means 3 denotes the tendensy of the focus detection information concerning the focus detection area used for the focus control and calculates the predicted value of the focus detection information. A searching means 4a searches the focus detection area coincident with the predicted value calculated by the means 3 along 'the selection order in the case of the focus control in past' stored in the storage means 2a. A focus control means 5 performs the focus control concerning the searched focus detection area. Thus, the time taken until the moving destination is found out is efficiently shortened concerning the subject image with high reproducibility of a moving course.
