摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve brightness so as to suitably use a liquid crystal element for portable information display or the like by making any of optical states caused by controlling a liquid crystal layer by impressing an electric field and heat in a state where linearly polarized light in parallel or orthogonal with the optical axis of an optical film is made incident on the optical film. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal element optically serially possesses a photosensitive layer 12, the liquid crystal layer 15 and the optical film 17 optically having plural areas having different retardation in parallel and a conductive reflection layer 19 such as metal or the like. Any of the optical states caused by controlling the liquid crystal layer 15 by impressing the electric field and the heat is made in the state where the linearly polarized light in parallel or orthogonal with the optical axis of the optical film 17 is made incident on the optical film 17. By this constitution, in the case that polarized light in a polarizing direction in parallel or orthogonal with the accelelation shaft of the optical film 17 or a retardation shaft orthogonal with it is made incident on the optical film 17, the optical state is made in a white state, and in the case that it is made by an angle other than that, it is made in a color developing state, so that each picture element is made in the color developing state of white and three primary colors or the like.
