<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the overheat of an automatic clutch by detecting a malfunction in the transmission ratio of a continuously variable transmission fixed in its overdrive mode. SOLUTION: A clutch control unit 20 is provided for an electromagnetic powder clutch 2 disposed between an engine output shaft 10 and an input shaft 10 of a continuously variable transmission 4, and controls the clutch 2 by determining which mode is being selected from the electrification modes of a reverse magnetization mode, a drag mode, a drive-away mode and two types of direct coupling modes on the basis of the engine speed varying according to the running conditions, vehicle speed, angular position of an accelerator pedal 23, and selected position of a selector lever 21. The clutch control unit 20 detects a malfunction in the continuously variable transmission 4 based on the electrification mode of the electromagnetic powder clutch 2, engine speed Ne and accelerator angular position. When a malfunction is detected in the continuously variable transmission 4, control is effected for lowering the vehicle speed through direct clutch coupling and for lowering the engine stall speed.</p> |
