The press has a punch (1) with a sign in relief (3) and a composite mould (2) with a cavity (4) of complementary shape to the sign. The sign formed on the punch has a planar frontal surface (9c) opposing the matrix which has a portion (9e) in relief from the planar front surface and spaced from the edges of the sign. The relief portion of the punch formed by machining the body of the punch. The relief portion can alternatively be formed by a section extending from an insert shaped as the sign to be inscribed and positioned in a groove in the frontal surface.
