The device has a fixed spooling part and a movable spooling part about which the cable is fed in a loop from its fixed end on the spooling device for connection to a current supply to its free end for connection to the equipment item. The spooling device contains two roller groups with plate-shaped, fluted edged rollers, one (3) with at least n rollers (4-6) on individual axles and the other (7) with at least n+1 rollers (8-11) on axles aligned in the same direction. The axles of the two groups are oriented wrt. each other so that the flutes of the individual rollers in the first group successively align with those of two successive rollers in the second group.
