Flash-type A=D converter for electronics and communication

The converter generates a digital output signal which corresponds to an analog input signal (IN). The converter includes a comparator (CP41) which has a reference value (Vref/2) of half of a level against the input signal, thus determining if the input signal position lies above or below the reference value. A first coder (41) generates a digital output signal of the most-significant-bits from the first comparator output. A subtractor (42) generates a difference between the reference value and the higher level input signal. Further comparators (CP51-58) determine the output signal level from the subtractor. The remainder of the digital output signal is generated by a second coder (43).
