The setting device uses an axially adjustable pole piece (18) positioned between the magnetic armature (4), controlling the movement of the valve element and the adjacent parts (10,11) of the magnetic yoke (2,10,11). The magnetic armature slides within a non-magnetic armature sleeve (14) fitted in the carrier (12) for the magnetic yoke, with an annular gap between them. The pole piece is provided by a magnetic sleeve around the armature sleeve, with a non-magnetic sleeve (17) contained in the latter annular gap and a further magnetic sleeve (16) fitted through the adjacent pole parts.
