摘要 A method of making paper comprising the step of adding to a paper furnish, at or prior to the headbox of a paper making machine, a modified starch prepared by swelling a cationised cross-linked starch under conditions selected so that the viscosity of the swollen product is less than 400 cps (measured at 3.0 % w/w starch solids; Brookfield RTV Model viscometer at 70 DEG C, 100 rpm, No 2 spindle or equivalent). A method of manufacture of a suitably modified starch is also described and claimed.
