A beverage infusion device comprises comprises a porous basket for beverage material 12 attached to a shield 14. The device is used with a beverage container so that, after the required amount of infusion has taken place, the shield is pushed towards the bottom of the container in order to seal the porous basket there to prevent further infusion. A retaining notch in the side wall of the container may be present to help retain the shield at the bottom of the container. The container can be a cup, a jug, a pitcher, a tea urn, a tea pot, a tea kettle or an insulated flask. In other examples, the shield has a valve, is reusable, is multipiece, has a sealing layer which becomes impermeable to water after exposure to water, and has sealing material around its periphery.
