The disclosed device allows the unlimited optical display of information for passengers without distracting the driver and at the same time prevents information from being optically displayed to the driver while the vehicle is moving. If the vehicle is stopped, all functions are available without limitation. For that purpose, detectors are provided for the vehicle speed, the position of input and output means and the presence of passengers. The sensor signals are evaluated by a control unit, and input and output facilities are controlled depending on the evaluation results.
