In-line production of wire

The method concerns production of steel wire from a cast initial product which after solidification and forming operations is wound into a coil without transverse cuts. The method includes comprises: a) casting of a strip with a thickness between 1 and 15 mm and a width from 1 to 1.5 m onto a cooling belt running at a speed from 4 to 20 m/s; b) cooling of the strip down to about 1000 deg C; c) forming operations on the strip, with utilisation of the casting heat; d) longitudinal cutting of the strip into filaments with approximately the same thickness and width; e) winding of the filaments into coils with a desired weight. Also claimed is an installation for implementation of the proposed method.
