Mechanical handling system for loading and unloading trucks with heavy loads

A system (4) for loading or unloading a long and heavy load onto e.g. the loading platform of a truck, consists of a lower frame (6) with upward-directed rail channels (13-16) and an upper load-bearing frame (7). The upper frame has wheels or rollers, by means of which it may move parallel to and along the lower frame. The upper load-bearing frame is raised from the floor in order to position the lower frame in readiness for load-transfer to e.g. a truck. The lower face of the upper frame has a hood enfolding two inflatable greased tubes or tundra tyres. To position the lower frame for load transfer, the tubes are inflated, raising the load from the floor and the lower frame is rolled into position. The tubes are then partially deflated and the load and upper frame are then resting on the lower frame. The load may then be transferred by cable-winch to the truck load platform.
