The metering appliance (1) includes a metering device (2) together with its holder (3). There is a metering valve and a operating spindle (5). The metering device is provided with an interlock (21,22). When the metering device is removed from its mounting the interlock latches, and when it is placed in position in its mounting, the interlock disengages. The interlock can be operated electromagnetically, or magnetically using a permanent magnet. A bolt can pass through the metering device housing with its internal end engaging with the valve spindle, or a mating piece attached to it, and its outer end with the valve mounting.
