A rope 18 is terminated in the tapered bore of a housing 12 by first reinforcing the rope end by incorporating filaments or fibres 22, e.g. in the form of a similar rope spliced into rope 18. The reinforcement may be added after the rope is passed through the housing, may extend beyond the housing upon completion, and may taper from a largest part at the rope end. The reinforced rope end is secured in the bore by conical wedge 16, by a resin, or by a combination of these. The rope may be braided. |
