PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition which can form a resin having a high toughness and a high refractive index by mixing a compound having a mercapto group in the molecule with a compound having (meth)acryloylthio groups and an aromatic ring in the molecule. SOLUTION: This composition comprises at least 5wt.% compound having at least one mercapto group in the molecule and desirably at least 70wt.% compound having at least two (meth) acryloylthio groups and at least one aromatic ring in the molecule (desirably, a compound having a sulfur content of 20wt.% or above and freed from a sulfur atom directly bonded to an aromatic ring). A resin having a high toughness and a high refractive index and suited for optical use can be obtained by polymerizing the composition.
