PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To activate a catalyst by utilizing a swirl control valve and increasing an exhaust gas temperature on a given condition. SOLUTION: Based on the number NE of revolutions of an engine and a fuel injection quantity Qf, the fundamental opening B-SCV of a swirl control valve is set at S4. It is decided at S5 whether a cooling water temperature Tw is below a given value, and when it is below the given value, the opening of the swirl control valve is corrected and controlled. Namely, when the fundamental opening of the swirl control valve is in a first operation region (low rotation and low load) wherein the fundamental opening thereof is set to the comparatively closed side, a correction amount D-open on the opening side is set, and correction and control are effected to the opening side at S7 and S8. Further, when the fundamental opening of the swirl control valve is in a second operation region (middle rotation and middle load) wherein the fundamental opening thereof is set to the comparatively opening side, a correction amount D-close on the closing side is set and correction and control are effected to the closing side at S10 and S11. |
