PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lubricating material capable of sliding between two solid bodies in contact with each other at low friction and low abrasion notwithstanding high speed or low speed and heavy load or light load and being friendly to environment and to obtain a magnetic recording medium having improved durability and traveling properties by using the material as a lubricating agent. SOLUTION: This lubricating material expressed by formula 1 consists of a derivative of succinic acid having an ester bond and an amine salt bond in the molecule and further, having one or more fluorinated blocks and non- fluorinated blocks respectively in the molecule. The magnetic recording medium is constructed by forming a magnetic layer on one or both faces of a nonmagnetic substrate and allowing the lubricating material to exist in or on the surface of the magnetic layer. In the formula, R1 is H or a non- fluorinated block, R2 is a fluorinated block or a non-fluorinated block, R<3> , R<4> are each H, a fluorinated block, a non-fluorinated block. |
