PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a preventing agent for diabetes mellitus consisting of seeds of a broom cypress (Kochia scoparia), high in safety, excellent in suppressing action on a blood sugar elevation, and useful as a blending material for preventing diabetes mellitus as a food taken everyday without depending on a medicine. SOLUTION: This preventing agent for diabetes mellitus contains seeds of a broom cypress e.g. a concentrated essence obtained by extracting the dried seeds of the broom cypress with 50-80% aquenous alcohol. Further preferably, the preventing agent for diabetes mellitus is taken before every meal or simultaneously with the meal by 0.2-2g for one time dose based on the dried seeds. The concentrated essence of the seeds of the broom cypress is obtained by adding 500ml of 50-80% aqueous alcohol to 100g coarse powder of the dried seeds, heating at 70-80 deg.C for 2hr under occasional stirring, filtering by a suction, repeating the similar operations to the residue twice to obtain an extract, added with a drop of defoaming agent and concentrating the extract to dryness by a rotary evaporator. |
