PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently remove a nitrogen oxide from combustion exhaust gas containing oxygen in a theoretical reaction amt. or more with respect to non-combustion components such as a nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide or a hydrocarbon. SOLUTION: A nitrogen oxide removing material prepared by mixing a first catalyst having a porous inorg. oxide silver component supported thereon and a second catalyst having porous inorg. oxide (a), tin oxide and a noble metal such as Pt(b) supported thereon is used to be arranged on the way of an exhaust gas conduit and a hydrocarbon is added on the upstream side of the removing agent and exhaust gas is brought into contact with the removing material to remove a nitrogen oxide.
