There are described N,N'-di(2-hydroxybenzyl)ethylenediamine-N,N'-diacetic acid hemiesters of the formula (I) wherein R<1> to R<9> are as defined in the description. The compounds have valuable pharmaceutical properties and are active, in particular, as iron chelators. They can be used for the treatment of an excess of iron in the body of warm-blooded animals. |
