In an electric-arc furnace (100) with tapping hole (13) in the hearth a frame (20) integral with the side wall (10) carries a vertical telescopic device (30, 40) that is rotatable about its own longitudinal axis and that carries underneath a vertical rod (42) which is introduced into the tapping hole (13) to eliminate therefrom any solid obstruction.
