A process and apparatus for purifying a gas stream containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide wherein the carbon monoxide in the gas stream undergoes selective catalytic oxidation in one or more stages followed by selective catalytic methanation in order to lower the amount of carbon monoxide in the gas stream to below 10 ppm, the methanation being conducted within a temperature range wherein the methanation catalyst acts to selectively methanate carbon monoxide in preference to carbon dioxide. |
