The wiper mechanism comprises a drive shaft (10), rotating the wiper arm (12), which passes through an opening (30) in the bodywork (28). A guide shaft (16) extends through the opening and the drive shaft extends axially beyond the guide to pass through a hole (42) in the bodywork and extend beyond the bodywork external face (41). The drive shaft has a radial play (J) in the hole. The guide shaft has a seal (44) which extends above the external face of the bodywork and entirely covers the bodywork hole. The seal has a section of revolution centred on the guide shaft axis (X-X). The guide shaft upper end (38) has a seal mounting socket (46) whose internal axial end (48) is fixed to the shaft. Its external axial end is in the shape of a cylindrical skirt (50) which extends through the bodywork hole and is passed through by the drive shaft and carries the seal.
