An in-line roller skate consists of a frame (5) with a boot sole plate (4), wheels (6) and a rear brake block (7). The rear brake block is brought into contact with the ground by raising the front end of the skate. The frame is made in two sections, a main section (5A) with the sole plate, at least one front wheel and the rear brake block, and a second section (5B) which is pivoted to the first between its front wheels and the brake block. The second section carries at least two rear wheels (6B) which remain in contact with the ground when the forward end of the skate is lifted to brake it. The angular movement of the first section (5A) of the frame relative to the second is limited by a stop (8) on the first section which makes contact with a corresponding part (9) of the second when all the wheels are on the ground. The two sections of the frame also have a return spring (10) connecting them at a point to the rear of their pivot (11).
