The steel enclosure has a safety valve that opens to relieve air pressure inside the enclosure if internal arcing occurs. The safety valve is formed by a flat plate fixed (25) to the walls of the enclosure and covering an opening in the enclosure. The plate is initially in one piece, with a number of long slots cut across the middle leaving narrow strips of metal to keep the two parts joined. A sudden rise of air pressure inside the enclosure is sufficient rupture the joining strips, leaving the two halves (28,30) of the plate to fold outward, releasing the pressure.
