The ball point pen has a point assembly (2) with a retainer for the ball (1) to form a writing point and having angled surfaces to prevent loss of the ball on sliding. An internal piercing of the retainer has an edge forming a sealing face (8) with a width (S) an a curvature (R) equal to that of the ball (1). The ball is retained loosely with a certain play and is displaceable in the axial direction with a longitudinal play (F) greater than 3 micrometers. The point assembly has a seating for the ball with a curvature (R) equal to that of the ball and to the rear of it with respect to the axial direction. Channels (17) are provided to the rear of the ball w.r.t. the axial direction to allow ink feed.
