SOLUTION: In a separating mechanism 5, a separating piece 50 is supported downstream in a conveying direction of a spring fulcrum Pb of springs 51, 52, so that the short separating piece 50 can do even if the distance from the spring fulcrum Pb of the springs 51, 52 to bent parts 512, 522 on the free end side is enlarged. The flexure of the separating piece 50 is therefore suppressed, and an angleθformed by the separating piece 50 and documents D can be set large. The bent part 522 of a front leaf spring 52 can therefore be moved downstream in the conveying direction compared to a previous position, that is, can be moved onto the ideal conveyance start position Pi side, and an angleϕformed by the bent part 522 and the documents D can also be secured large.
