PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoreceptor for an image forming device which is hardly scratched and has durability, and to provide an image forming device which does not show decrease in the image quality even for long-term use. SOLUTION: This photoreceptor 101 is composed of a conductive base body, a photoconductive layer having photoconductive property comprising a nonsingle crystal material essentially comprising silicon atoms and containing hydrogen atoms and/or halogen atoms, and a surface layer having a charge holding function. The surface layer is composed of an amorphous silicon-based film having the following features. The optical band gap near the surface layer of the photoconductive layer is 1.70 to 1.75eV. The characteristic energy at the base of the exponential function obtd. from the absorption spectrum of the subband gap is 50 to 60meV. The local state density is 1×10<14> to 1×10<16> cm<-3> . The surface resistance of the surface layer is 1×10<10> to 1×10<15>Ωcm. The surface layer is formed under conditions of 0.1 to 0.5W/sccm power supply per the unit flow rate.
