PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read only an arbitrary area without driving with a highspeed clock, obtain a high frame rate, and attain reduction in scale by selecting and scanning an arbitrary unit of pixel signals of a two-dimensional pixel array together at each time. SOLUTION: This shift register consists of a 1st shift switch 11 and a 2nd shift switch 12 which are cascaded to a shift register unit block 10 in stages, and opened and closed with the clock. The opening and closure of the shift switches 12 are controlled by unit blocks by a switch group 13 according to switch opening/closure information in a memory part 14. Here, an inputted start pulseϕST is shifted by the 2nd shift switch 12 according to a shift clockϕCK in a nonconduction unit block and placed in phase with the shift signal of the unit block of the last stage irrelevantly to the shift clockϕCK in a conduction unit block. Therefore, the opening and closure of the shift switches can be controlled by the unit blocks, and the pixel signals can be scanned together by arbitrary units.
