PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for compression which is advantageous in view of an energy consumption for the method. SOLUTION: Gaseous oxygen is directly produced under a desired high pressure by a method wherein liquid oxygen is taken out of a container of a low pressure diluting tower 11. Air to be diluted is divided into three flows, i.e., gaseous flow of middle pressure in a double diluting tower 1, gaseous air flow of higher pressure than about 60 bar and gaseous flow of intermediate pressure expanded up to middle pressure by a turbine 8 after partial cooling. The intermediate pressure is set such that air processed by the turbine shows a temperature near a dew forming point at an inlet port of a turbine wheel. In concurrent with this operation, liquid product is taken out of a plant (at a conduit 24). In addition, this method is suitable for a facility for producing a large amount of gaseous oxygen under a pressure not less than 30 bar.
