PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the binding stitch knitting and provide a method for knitting by which the shrinkability of a part of a knitted fabric where the knitting is completed is raised. SOLUTION: The binding stitch treatment of each stitch is successively carried out from one end of a prescribed section on a needle bed as a starting point toward the other end for a stitch of a knitted fabric knitted by using a flat knitting machine in the final course engaged with knitting needles in the prescribed section. In the process, the stitch formed when carrying out the binding stitch treatment is formed by feeding a knitting yarn in the direction opposite the forward direction of the binding stitch treatment. The knitted fabric undergoing the binding stitch treatment is the one composed of a 1×1 rib stitch textile design and the binding stitch treatment is performed with an elastic yarn. The stitch formed at that time is a purl stitch.
