PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing a fluorinated polymer which can provide a fluorinated polymer with a good controllability of the reaction temp. in a reaction of a copolymer with a fluorine gas. SOLUTION: This process comprises introducing a polymer having a hydrogen atom in its molecule and a fluorine gas into an internally agitated reactor constructed so that an agitating blade is provided within a container having a bottom face comprising a curved face protruding the downward direction, and at least the inner wall serving as the bottom face it used as a temp. controlling face, thus conducting a contact reaction. The gap (d (mm)) between the bottom face of the container and the front end of the agitating blade is regulated so as to satisfy the formula: 0.1×(2d)<1/2> <d<0.5×(2D)<1/2> (wherein D (mm) represents the radius of curvature of the bottom of the container), and the reaction is allowed to processed while moving the agitation blade at a peripheral speed of 0.1 to 2.0m/sec.
