PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disaster recovery means even if a vault card is lost or stolen by storing the transaction records also in a PC(personal computer) hard drive in a safe way. SOLUTION: An open system PC-based postage meter 10 is provided with an ordinary personal computer which functions as an attachable/detachable processor that stores the mail charge fund, i.e., an electronic vault 20. An increment register of a processing unit records the consumed mail charge amount, and a decrement register records the value that is decreased every time the mail charge is drawn. Then the meter transaction record data are signed in cipher by means of a MAC(message acknowledge code), etc. The signed data are stored in a hidden file of a hard drive. When the data stored in the hard drive included in a PC are collected, the latest record of a data center or the recorded latest mail count is verified. |
