PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material having high hardness and low frictional properties by mixing titanium (alloy) powder and the carbide of Cr, W or V by a specified amt., heating this mixture to less than the m.p. of the carbide and also to more than the m.p. of the titanium (alloy), and in the matrix of the titanium (alloy), dispersing the carbide by specified area ratio. SOLUTION: Titanium (alloy) is mixed with the carbide of Cr, W or V by 30 to 50vol.%. By a plasma transfer inert gas arc welding method, this mixture is heated to less than the m.p. of the carbide and also to more than the m.p. of the titanium (alloy) to disperse the carbide into the matrix of the titanium (alloy) by >=15% area ratio. The longest particle size of the carbide is preferably regulated to >=50μm. The carbide having >=50 longest particle size improves the wear resistance of the alloy. By the heat treatment, fine carbide is precipitated. The fine carbide imparts excellent strength, toughness or the like to the alloy as well as hardness and low wear resistance.
