The alternator has an outer body (110,120), with a centrally mounted rotor and rotating shaft (130), and an intermediate stator section (150). The outer body has an inlet (170) and passages (112) to allow circulating cooling liquid to pass through it. The outer body has a hole close to the circulating passage, into which an electrical heating element (113) is plugged. An electrical current passes through the element, heating up the alternator body and circulating liquid at engine start up. |
