PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate the accurate centroid position and area of an object in order to know the shape of the object by providing two steps for a convergence operation to extract an edge of the object. SOLUTION: In addition to an ordinary convergence arithmetic unit, a smoothed luminance calculation device (2) 7, a line process calculation device (2) 8 and convergence decision device (2) 9 are provided. Then a 2nd functional E2 where a 2nd term of an expression is added to a normal 1st functional E1 is defined. In this expression, CF2 is a constant showing the intensity of the constraint condition and (i) and (j) show the indexes of the (x) and (y) components of an image with (h) and (v) showing the horizontal and vertical line processes respectively. In regard to the new arithmetic units 7 to 9, the coefficients of constraint conditions which secure the dynamics of smoothed luminance and line processes are changed or a condition that compulsively increases the line process of a point having an interrupted contour is added to a constraint condition. As a result, a shape extraction device 10 can easily extract the contour of an object and also can extract the original shape of the object with no interruption even for an image of a low contrast. |
