For isolated public or private concrete or other structures requiring to be illuminated for information or warning purposes, and where connection to the public electricity supply would be uneconomic, a self-contained power source based on solar panels is proposed. The panels are reorientable automatically in 30 degrees steps over 180 degrees, for optimum received energy, and, optionally, supported by a battery-backed local generator, powered by liquid or gas fuel, with electronically controlled charging and discharging cycles. Optionally, a photo-electric detector is included and/or a programmable time-switch. The equipment may be integrated with, or attached to, the structure served.
