Sorting and separating of packaged goods method

The sorting installation consists of at least two conveyor belts carrying the packed items, and sensors to detect the weight and size of the packages which are directed in a single stream. Deflectors on the path of the goods react to an electronic control unit and redirect each line into two sub-lines before transfer to a dispatch conveyor. Mixed packages (1) are carried on conveyors I and II and the loading modified by transfer of a package (1a) from the more heavily laden line I to a position (1b) on the less laden line II. The control system guides the packages into single files so that further sensors then guide them according to pre-determined criteria into two lines (I',I",II',II") and to storage areas (2) from which they may be transferred to the dispatch conveyor (3).
