The method for laying a bridge features a support that has a gap for a seat in the reach of a portable installation vehicle. The transport vehicle, with the bridge section to be installed, starts to assemble the segment underneath the telescopic carrier. The support may be positioned relative to the swivel device on the installation vehicle. The installation vehicle may have a ready mounted bridge segment and this can be installed in the receiving device. The receiving device may use a supporting cable that is linked to the installation vehicle, at the opposite end to the support and in the direction that the installation vehicle retreats.
