<p>A process for the production of aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acids such as salicylic acid comprising contacting an aromatic hydroxy compound such as phenol with carbon dioxide in the presence of fluoride ion. The products are useful as pharmaceuticals and chemical intermediates, and as monomers for polymers.</p> |
