Connection element for plastics coated wire

The elements connects to make a wire connection. At least one includes a wire which has a plastics sleeve (3) surrounding a conductive wire (1). The connection structure is formed by overlapping the elements (W1,W2) and pressing together the overlapping sections (S) of the elements between a pair of plastic parts (13,15). The pressed overlapping section (S) is pressed and stimulated using an ultrasonic welding device. This melts the sleeve (3), separates it, frees the conductive wire and electrically connects the sections of conductive wire in the overlapping region together. The plastic parts (13,15) are melted together so that the connected wire parts are sealed by the melted plastic parts. Wire inlet sections (31) are formed as blind openings in the plastic parts (13,15). When the plastic parts (13,15) overlap, these openings taper from the start of the inlet to the connection regions of the clad wires (W1,W2). When the plastic parts are melted together the openings (31) leave at least areas of the sleeve.
