The invention relates to an exercise device consisting of an elastic rod wound at the centre into a spring so that the ends of the rod can be pressed together only by overcoming a spring force. To make the force with which the ends of the rod are pressed together variable, an elastic component, e.g. a rubber disc, is wound about the centre of the rod.
