Improving the performance and versatility of a free reed instrument by linking a key (87) of the instrument to a variable geometry, which provides modifications in muscial tones. The instrument can be an accordion or other free reed instrument and the variable geometry is manipulated to alter the combination of pitch and timbre of the tone.
