The invention concerns a process and a device for determining the condition of a wiper blade of a motor vehicle. For automatic measurement of the condition, the rate of wear is determined by measuring at least one influencing variable related to the condition of the wiper blade and comparing it with at least one value stored for comparison which triggers a message when a predetermined constellation of the influencing variable and the comparison value has been reached.
