The device is mounted in an emergency flotation buoy (1) and digitally acquires, stores and, if required, outputs data in the form of speech, images and operational data. It includes a removable storage device (11), a microprocessor (10), an interrupt-free power supply (14), and an NMEA interface (12). The device has a modular, system-independent process recorder with a freely reconfigurable microprocessor system (9). The microprocessor and the storage device can be changed to adapt to different power requirements and storage volumes. An Ethernet interface (13) is provided to cope with large data quantities and for real-time acquisition of image and speech data. the battery's state of charge is monitored.
