The bottom of the heater (1) has connections (15,16) for the inflow (V) and return (R) of the heating medium. The vertical heater-elements (2,3,4) are connected by top and bottom hubs (5-14). A cylindrical insert (24) holding a valve housing (18) is screwed into the front top hub (5) of one heater element (2) and is pressed against a seal (25) between adjacent heater elements. The valve housing is mounted in a connecting-piece (19) comprising the insert's container space (34) pointing towards the end side (22) of the front top hub. The connecting piece forms part of a flange (20) joined to the insert and resting against the end side of the front hub. The valve housing has at least one transverse overflow opening (33) joining an inner longitudinal duct (31) to the container space. The valve housing is tightly joined to the insert's central part (27) defining an inflow part (28) connected to the inflow.
