The plan involves folding a map sheet (1) with longitudinal and lateral folds. The fold line (2) associated with each second longitudinal ridge fold (4) which points away from the rear of the sheet, has slits (6) in the region of the lateral fold lines (3). The slits are separated by narrow stems (5). When the map is folded up in the longitudinal direction, a fold line associated with a lateral ridge fold (18) which points away from the rear of the sheet, is at roughly the same level as the upper edge of the sheet, so that the tops of the upper folds (10) run at the same level. The fold lines associated with lateral ridge folds (19) which point towards the rear of the sheet, form a staircase fold.
